Karachi, March 13, 2013: HUM Network held its Servis 1st HUM Awards here yesterday at Karachi Expo Centre, an event that will be remembered for a long time as a star-studded, entertainment-packed, brilliantly executed and heart-warming one. Held to acknowledge and honour all those in the entertainment industry who have been a pillar of support to HUM in its eight-year long journey of success, the event was very well-received by all who attended.
Right from the word go the tempo was set with the red carpet area welcoming the guests and the glitterati and mouth-watering hors d’ ouvres being passed around.
As guests entered the performance area to be seated they were spellbound by the awe-inspiring, massive, and beautifully decorated and lit stage. Hardly had they got over their surprise that the opening act was announced which featured the inimitable Abida Parveen.
Mekaal and Mahira then came in to host the first segment which was of Music Awards. After a visual presentation of HUM’s eight-year journey, nominees of Best Solo Artiste were announced by Asif Reza and Ayaan. The nominees were Abbas Ali Khan, Fakhir, Shehzad Roy, Falak and Hadiqa and the award went out to Shehzad Roy. Since he was out of the country Kami received the award on his behalf. Best Music Video nominees were Maram and Abro, Syed Ali Reza, Ehsan Rahim and Usman Mukhtar and the award went out to Syed Ali Reza. The Best OST Award presented by Alamgir and a sponsor went to Meray Qatil Meray Dildar. Other nominees were Roshan Sitara, Sanjha, Mata-e-Jaan Hai Tu, Nadamat and Maat.
Anwar Maqsood was the very apt choice to present the Lifetime Achievement Award which went out posthumously to Moin Akhter. Although his son was present to collect the award, he missed the announcement and the award was collected by Bushra Ansari, another very apt choice as she formed the third angle in the triangle that was Moin-Anwar-Bushra, bringing many a play to audiences.
The next performance to enthrall audiences was by Humayun Saeed and troupe who performed a premiere dance from his film Mein Hoon Shahid Afridi.
This was followed by Mekaal and Mahira announcing the next category of awards which were of Fashion. Nabila and Tapu announced the nominees for Best Designer Womenswear. The nominees were Asifa and Nabeel, Ali Xeehan, Fahad Hussain, Nomi Ansari and Nida Azwar and the award went to Nomi Ansari. Best Designer Menswear nominees were Arsalan, Emran Rajput, Nauman Arfeen, Zaheer Abbas and Deepak Perwani and the award was bagged by Deepak Perwani. Best Model (female) nominees were announced by Nadya Husain and a sponsor and included Mehreen Sayed, Ayaan, Neha, Rabia Butt, Fouzia Aman, Nadia Ali and Amna Ilyas, while the award was bagged by Ayaan. Best Model (male) nominees were announced by Vaneeza and a sponsor. The nominees were Abdullah, Iffy, Mohammed, Athar Ameen and Abbas Jafri and the award went to Abbas Jafri.
Much to everyone’s delight LED Butterflies performed next with their light-studded outfits literally lighting up the stage, and marking the entry for the next award segment which was of Special Recognition Awards, hosted by Bushra Ansari. Duraid Qureshi presented ten awards to the stalwarts of the television screen who have made an immense contribution to television since its inception in Pakistan. The recipients were Nayyer Kamal, Zaheen Tahira, Badar Khalil, Kazi Wajid, Qavi Khan, Talat Hussain, Munawer Saeed, Anwer Maqsood (received by Moin’s son), Shakeel and Abid Ali.
Mahira and Vasay Chaudhry hosted the next segment. They did a hilarious Truth or Dare with some of the celebrity guests present before announcing the next category of awards. Awards for Best Actor in a Comic Role and Best Comedy Sitcom were presented by Ayesha Omer and Immu. The nominees in the first category were Barkat Siddiqui, Ismail Tara, Uroosa Siddiqui and Danish Nawaz and the award went to Uroosa Siddiqui. The nominees in the second category were Extras, One Way Ticket, Halka Na Lo, Fun Khana, and the award went out to Extras. Best Host and Best Drama series awards were presented by Farhan Ali Agha and Alishba Yusuf. Fahad Mustafa was the sole nominee and recipient of the first award while Angeline Malik was the sole nominee and recipient for the second award for her series Kitni Girhain Baqi Hai.
Mahvish Hayat and Ahsan Khan brought the house down with their lively performance on a medley, heralding the next segment of awards hosted by Mekaal and Mahira. Best Actor in a Soap (female) Award was presented by Imran Abbas and Sanam Jhang. Nominees were Sumbul, Komal Rizvi, Areej Fatima and Mawra and the winner was Sumbul for Raju Rocket; Madiha collected the award on her behalf. Best Actor in a Soap (male) Award was presented by Angeline and Deepak. The nominees were Imran Aslam, Danish Taimur, Farhan Ali Agha and Junaid Khan and the winner was Imran Aslam for Nikhar Gaye Gulab Saray. Best Soap nominees were Raju Rocket, Mar Jain Bhi Tu Kya, Mujhay Roothney Na Dena and Nikhar Gaye Gulab Saray. Mujhay Roothnay Na Dena bagged the award which was presented by Misbah Khalid and Sajid. Best New TV Sensation Award was presented by Humaima Malik and Adeel Hussain. Nominees were Shahryar Munawar and Suhai Abro and both won the award.
After a hilarious interlude with the legendry Omer Sharif nominees for the Best Actor (female) in a Supporting Role in a serial Award were announced, and presented by Zeba Bakhtiar and Ejaz Aslam. Nominnes were Shagufta Aijaz, Samina Peerzada, Saba Hameed, Sajjal, Hina Dilpazeer and Sadia Imam. The award was shared by Samina Peerzada for Roshan Tara and Shagufta Aijaz for Meray Qatil Meray Dildar. Best Actor (male) in a Supporting Role in a serial Award was presented by Hina Bayat and Asif Reza Mir. The nominees were Mohib Mirza, Kashif Mehmood, Rehan Sheikh, Babar Khan and Imran Aslam and the award went to Mohib Mirza for Shehrezaat.
After a wonderful performance by Fahad Mustafa who also sang the medley, Mekaal and Vasay Chaudhry announced the award for Best Writer Drama Serial. The nominees were Meray Qatil Meray Dildar, Maat, Yahan Pyar Nahin Hai, Shehrezaat, Roshan Sitara, Aik Tamana Lahasil Si, Bilquis Kaur and Mata-e-Jaan Hai Tu. Presented by Noor-ul-Huda Shah the award was bagged by Umaira Ahmed for Maat, and was received by Amna Sheikh. Noman Ejaz and Saba Qamar presented the award for Best Director Drama Serial. The nominees were Sarmad Khoosat, Amna Nawaz, Asim Ali, Siraj ul Haq, Farooq Rind, Fahim Burney, Adnan Farooq, Mehreen Jabbar, Saif-e-Hassan and Haissam Hussain. The award was bagged by Farooq Rind for Sanjha. The Best Drama Serial Award was presented by Atiqa Odho and a sponsor. The nominees were Meray Qatil Meray Dildar, Maat, Yahan Pyar Nahin Hai, Shehrezaat,Roshan Sitara and Bari Apa. The award went to Shehrezaat and was received by co-producers Abdullah Kadwani and Momina Duraid.
The award for the Most Challenging Subject was presented by Qavi Khan and Sanam Saeed. The award went to Dastaan and was received by Momina Duraid, Haissam Hussain and Sameera Fazal.
Then came the surprise package that HUM had been keeping from all their guests – a riveting performance by Rabi Shergil. This was followed by a special recognition award – Excellence in the field of Music, which went out to Ustaad Raees and was presented by Jawed Sheikh and Samina Peerzada. Humsafar – the phenomenal serial – had been placed in a separate category where all its team members were awarded for their remarkable contribution in making this play so legendry. The awards were given out by Sultana Siddiqui.
Humaima’s scintillating performance marked the close of the evening heralding the last category of awards. There were no guesses for the Best On-screen Couple Award which went to Fawad and Mahira for Humsafar, and was presented by Mohib Mirza and Amna Sheikh. The other nominees were Mekaal and Mahira, and Ahsan Khan and Mehwish Hayat. Best Actor (female) Award nominees were Saba Qamar, Mehwish Hayat, Mahira Khan, Sanam Baloch, Bushra Ansari, Saba Qamar, Sawera Nadeem and Amina Sheikh. Presented by Humayun Saeed and a sponsor the award went to Mahira for Shehrezaat. Best Actor (male) was presented by Samina Peerzada and the nominees were Mekaal, Ahsan Khan, Adnan Siddiqui, Imran Aslam and Noman Ejaz. The award was bagged by Noman for his role in Bari Apa, bringing the magnificent event to an end.
