If you thought Atif Aslam’s collaboration with the former Guns N’ Roses line-up in the band Velvet Revolver was something, you have not seen anything yet. More of late, the Voice of Hearts from Pakistan is working with none other than the once lead vocalist of the English progressive rock band Genesis, Peter Gabriel.

With her latest movie project, “The Reluctant Fundamentalist” in the works, Mira Nair is indeed not at all hesitant to take it to a whole new level. No wonder she picked up the two legends for the soundtrack of her film. The collaborative soundtrack is truly unique in the sense that it is based upon the Urdu poetry by the late Faiz Ahmed Faiz.

Gabriel, who hardly does movie scores, decided to take the project after he was impressed by the twenty minutes of the movie sent by Nair herself. Atif Aslam went to London to personally record the song with Gabriel. Regarding the collaborative effort, Atif sang the Urdu verses and Gabriel sang the English words.

Nair is extremely thrilled about the soundtrack and even went to Lahore due to Atif’s recording. The bright filmmaker has stated, “He [Atif] has sung two Faiz poems for me: “Mori Araj Suno” and “Bol”. My hero Changez [Riz Ahmed] is a young, modern man. Atif’s voice suited the character. And when I added Peter Gabriel to Faiz’s poetry, our music moved to another sphere.”
