Today, as we all know, is the first death anniversary of Mehdi Hassan Sahab, who ruled Ghazal world as a king. He left us last year after suffering from various diseases for such long time. The mastermind behind some of the best Ghazals, including Ab Ke Hum Bichde, Dil-E-Nadan Tujhe Hua Kya Hai, Gulon Mein Rang Bhare, Daikh tu dil ke Jan and Ranjish hi sahi, struggled with fatal diseases last year and left us all, leaving tears behind.
So, let’s remember the “King of Ghazal” today by paying him tribute, in a true sense.
Born in 1927, in Luna, Rajasthan, Mehdi Hassan earned his music education by his father and uncle. At the time of partition, his family moved to Pakistan and hence, it all started here. His family suffered financial crisis. He struggled with the situation intelligently and kept on practicing music as well. He earned recognition after performing for the first time on Radio Pakistan. His passion for Urdu poetry led him to do ghazals.
Mehdi Hassan had been honored with Nishan-e-Imtiaz, Hilal-e-Imtiaz, Tamgha-e-Imtiaz and Tamgha-e-Husne Karkardgi. His collection of Ghazals cannot be presented at one place, however, we have gathered some of his most popular Ghazals of all time.
