Soaring high and proud, Pakistani cinema is approaching the zenith of its glory at a quick pace, with the release of back- to-back blockbuster movies. The array of hits include Josh, Main Hoon Shaid Afridi, Zinda Bhaag and Waar; causing movie lovers to celebrate the revival of Pakistani cinema like never before. Another upcoming effort soon to join the list is Farooq Mengal’s movie “Hijrat”
Yet another heavy budgeted movie, Hijrat is a romantic flick that revolves around the heartbreaking tale of the homeless and the unsheltered who suffered in the Afghan war.
Taking a turn from dramas to movies, Mengal is making his debut in Lollywood as both the writer and the director of the movie.
“The film is based on romance and commitment essentially but we also wanted to explore the background of human rights issues in Pakistan. In today’s times, we have an endless list of problems in this country and I think we have to find stories from this society so the audience can relate”, commented Mengal in a statement to the media.
The film is going to be launched under the banner of FM productions and features Pakistani model Rabia Butt and “Hero Bannay ki Tarang” winner Asad Zaman in the leading role.
The very dashing Zaman stars as “Murad”, a young buoyant guy who is exposed to the world of anguish and torment when he comes across Internally Displaced People (IDP) at a rehabilitation center. There, he falls in love with an Indian doctor “Jia” whose character is played by Rabia.
Both model-turned- actors have made their mark in the world of fashion and television; Zaman being the winner of the reality show “Hero Bannay ki Tarang” and Butt for twice bagging the Best model at Lux Style Awards.
Other cast members include Nadeem Baig, Salma Agha and Mareeha Safdar. Soundtacks by Ali Azmat, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Imran Aziz and Abida Parveen will be included in the movie.
The movie’s teaser released earlier this week gained instant popularity across all social media platforms and became viral.
However, the release date of the movie has not been announced yet. However it is expected to hit the silver screens in the first quarter of 2014.
Lollywood now seems quite alive and vibrant with the initiation of such exceptional movies. The expectations from Mengal’s venture debut are quite sky high. If everything goes perfect, no one can stop “Hijrat” to join the ranks of much-loved films of the new age of Pakistani cinema.
