Just recently, the Oscar winning Hollywood actor, Sean Penn, visited flood victims in Badin, Pakistan. He came along with the U.S. diplomats’ delegation comprising of eight people, which also included the U.S. Consul General William J. Martin. He reportedly visited areas of Peero Lashari, Karim Bux Jamali and Dargah Shah Gurio villages according to the Express Tribune. While there he distributed relief goods to the people who did not had a single clue as to who he actually was.
Most people in Pakistan who are interested in watching Hollywood movies would instantly recognize him. But the body of work in films that he has done is not something that generally the masses in the country are aware of. However, this unfamiliarity did not stop either the people there or Sean Penn himself not to mingle with each other. He asked about their conditions post the flooding and they related their part of the story.
The USAID has also distributed 60,000 shelters as well as health clinics. Being involved in the humanitarian activity here in Pakistan, Sean however refused to talk to the media as he did not want to highlight himself rather more actually the importance of aid. But he did issue an statement regarding the humanitarian award by Abdul Sattar Edhi and his wife Bilquees he was given:
“I’m thrilled to receive this tribute and to represent it to the youth of Haiti, the strong women of Haiti, and of the world. Tomorrow is a new day where cynicism is for cowards, and men of virtue and agency will be true heroes to their sons.”
